Karen J. Harlow

Portrait of Karen Harlow in charcoal, by her sister Nancy Knight

In the words of poet Luis Cuauhtemoc Berriozabal, Karen Harlow is a "true guardian angel. I can see why Luis Omar Salinas is so inspired to write such powerful poetry [on her behalf], such as Chivalry [a poem dedicated to Karen Harlow by Salinas]." -- From a letter to THT Editor Mike Burch

In addition to being a veritable angel, Karen Harlow is also a talented photographer and artist, and she has been kind enough to provide us with photos and portraits of some of our favorite subjects: poets! Although we profess to know them by their words, Karen Harlow helps us to "read between the lines" of their oft-furrowed brows ...

Poet Luis Omar Salinas

"This is the portrait of Omar I completed in January of this year. It is based on a picture I took of him reading a book between rain storms outside the Barnes and Noble here in Fresno, California. He loves an outing to the bookstore, finding a new book, and having coffee outside at one of the tables, weather permitting. I think this really shows his character and looks exactly like he looks at those times." -- Karen Harlow, in a letter to THT editor Mike Burch
